Dora I. Harsy, nee Todd, 89, of Freeburg, IL, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020 surrounded by loved ones.
Dora was born on March 8, 1931 in DuQuoin, IL to John and Clara, nee Reidelberger, Todd who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband Carl “Gene” Harsy, whom she married on July 14, 1948 and died on November 19, 1990, her infant son, Scott Douglas Harsy, and brothers and sisters.
Dora was a dedicated mother first and foremost and also loved her role as Granny. She could often be seen at one of their many activities and was always their biggest cheerleader.
Dora never met a stranger and embraced those around her. She had a vivacious personality and an infectious smile. She loved camping and traveling and kept detailed photo albums and journals. She was an avid reader, enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, and loved sewing. Her hands were rarely still. Dora belonged to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and was a proud member of St. Paul’s 80 and Over club.
Dora is survived by her:
Memorials: Memorials may be made to Family Hospice or the Arthritis Foundation.
Services: Private family interment.
May God comfort you with precious memories. Love you.
A wondeful lady. She had a big heart, full of love, just like her mother Clara. The world is poorer but Heaven is richer. My deepest condolences.

My mom was close friends with Dora, her name was Georgene Taylor she passed away August 31, 2021. I just googled Dora while going thru my mom’s address book. I am sorry to hear about Dora, I remember coming to your house as a child. I remember my dad riding a horse at your house….had to be in the 70s. Hoping my mom and Dora are together again. I am sorry they hadn’t had a chance to see each other in so many decades, but I know they kept in touch and talked on the phone. My mom always talked about how funny and friendly Dora was….I am sorry for your loss.
I am so sorry to hear about Dora, my mom and her were close friends many years ago. My mom’s name is Georgene Taylor, she passed away August 31, 2021. I remember as a child visiting your family’s house and my goofy dad riding a horse and all of us jumping on a trampoline! It must have been in the 70s. I found this page while going thru my mom’s address book. I know my mom hadn’t had the chance to see Dora for many years, but I know they kept in touch by phone. I remember my mom talking about Dora making her laugh and what a great person she was. I am so sorry for your family’s loss.
