Samuel G. Lehr Jr., 54, of Coulterville IL. born Tuesday, May 18, 1965, in Sparta, IL, passed away on the evening of Wednesday, December 4, 2019, surrounded by his family at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, IL.
Sam graduated from Coulterville High School in 1983 and started working at Sparta Pizza Hut until 1984. He received his Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate in 1986 and worked at the Sparta Nursing home until 1988. He moved to Belleville and worked in the SWIC book store until 1993. Later, he moved back to Coulterville and was employed at the Sparta Aluminum Plant until 2005.
Sam was an avid history buff and a board/video gaming enthusiast. He loved scenic unplanned road trips. He also had a love of nature and animals.
He was a member of the Coulterville Methodist Church and loved helping people in need.
He was preceded in death by his:
- Parents: Samuel G. and Marie J. (Hillyard) Lehr
- Older sister: Georgia Elaine Lehr
He is survived by:
- Four older brothers:
- Michael (Susan) Lehr of St. Roberts, MO
- John (Linda) Lehr of Coatesville PA
- Joe (Sue) Lehr of Belleville IL
- Daniel Lehr of Carbondale IL
Services: Private family memorial service will be held at a later date

I grew up with Sammy and graduated with him. He was so funny and smart. One of the nicest guys in school! So sad to hear of his passing.

Sorry to hear the passing of Sammy. I did not grow up with him but did with Joe and John. So young. Just remember everyone everyday is a Blessing. Live it to the best and do good.
