Maxine Marie McGarvey, nee Pierce, 90, of Belleville, IL, born Sunday, May 6, 1934, in Albion, IL, passed away Monday, July 15, 2024 at Cedar Ridge Rehab Center in Lebanon, IL. Maxine affectionately known as Granny Max was a beacon of light, love and warmth to all who knew her.
She was a long-time member of St. Matthew Church in Belleville, IL. She worked at Hancock Fabric and Kmart for many years. Maxine was a seamstress and lent her talents to many organizations such as Unity Hospice to support those in need. She was an artist, master of puzzles, a keen bird watcher and always had open arms and an open heart. Her contagious laughter, especially when her sister Melba was present, was absolutely the highlight of family gatherings. Maxine’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and a community that was better for her presence.

Visitation: Services to honor and celebrate the life of Maxine McGarvey will be held from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, Friday, July 19, 2024 at St. Matthew Church in Belleville, IL.
Funeral: Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm, Friday, July 19, 2024 at Saint Matthew Church, with Rev. Robert Swickard officiating. Interment will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville, IL.
Maxine McGarvey will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know her.

Knowing Maxine lone could not help but love. Her soft gentle way, her wonderful laugh, her love for her family, her love fo St Matthew church and her love fo Jesus in her life describes her. She was so loved.

Mrs. McGarvey was one lovely and kind lady. Always smiling and cheerful. Was such a large part of my youth. May God comfort her family, Dale, Brenda, and Margie and all her grandkids.

Margie, Brenda, and Dale…I have so many memories of your mom. I remember growing up at church andalways seeing her at the Big K….she always spoke smiled and made me feel important cause I knew an adult.

So sorry to hear of your Mother’s passing, I use to sit in front of her at church and we had some good conversations as well as worked with her in a thrift shop a few times. What a lovely and kind woman she was.
