Marilyn M. Vahlkamp of St. Clair County, IL, born Aug. 29, 1934 in Fayetteville, IL, died February 3, 2022.
Marilyn was the daughter of the late Bernard J. Vahlkamp and Helena E. (nee Mueth). She was the last of her siblings, brother Marcel “Val” Vahlkamp, and sisters Helen Carpenter, Mary Ann Heimann, and twin Carolyn O. Vahlkamp. She is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marilyn was a career civil servant, working at Scott A.F.B. A strong supporter of women’s rights before that was fashionable, she was also a lover of animals, and an avid supporter of various animal rescue groups in St. Clair County. Always current on the issues of the day, she loved to discuss the news from local papers to MSNBC. Marilyn and her sister Carolyn traveled to Hamm Cemetery in Luxembourg, Europe to lay a wreath at the monument to missing WW II soldiers, one of whom was their uncle and godfather, Erwin Mueth.
Marilyn was laid to rest beside her twin sister Carolyn in St. Pancratius Cemetery, with Deacon Jim Law officiating. In lieu of flowers, consider donating, in Marilyn’s name, to the Belleville (IL) Area Humane Society.
