Joe graduated from St. Louis Country Day School, and attended Washington University where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. While at Wash U, he and three frat brothers won the inter-fraternities’ tennis tournament. He worked for “Hatchet”, the Washington University yearbook, and appeared on stage at Kiel Opera House for the Wash U Bearskin Follies. Unfortunately, he had too much fun, and nobody told him it was important to attend class.
Later Joe did many types of work. He was a licensed real estate broker and a licensed (all lines) insurance broker. He spent most of his life financing real estate. He became a mortgage loan correspondent for National Homes Acceptance Corporation. Later he was a mortgage loan officer for GMAC Mortgage Co., Security Financial (Security Bank of Milwaukee), and Firstco Mortgage (branch of FCB Banks). He was the Executive Director of the St. Clair County Housing Authority, manager of a general insurance agency, and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 520.
Joe was a member of St. Clair Country Club since 1959. He enjoyed golf, tennis, cards and World War 2 trivia; most of all, however, he loved his wife, children, his home, and his dog, Rory.

Please know how sorry I am about Joe’s passing. He was my neighbor twice, in two different towns, which is kind of rare. I always enjoyed visiting with him, especially in recent years when he woukd stop and talk with me while walking Rory across my back patio. He was a heck of a guy and I will miss him.
My condolences to Joe’s family. I knew Joe well during my high school years in Belleville and we were in the same group of friends at that time.. Joe had a terrific sense of humor and was the kind of person you could Not help but like. May God‘s grace bless Joe and hisfamily.
