Born: December 26, 1938 - Deceased: 20220219
Imal “Marie” Hurst, nee Taylor, 83, of Belleville, IL, born Monday, December 26, 1938, in Cutler, IL, passed away rather suddenly on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.
Marie was a caring wife, mother, nana, sister, and friend. She was born to Howard and Audrey Taylor on December 26, 1938. In junior high school, she met the love of her life, Bob, who eventually became her husband. Together they had two daughters, Laura and Linda. Marie was a devoted mother who led by example. Her character exuded loyalty, kindness, love, peace, mercy, and grace. Her daughters are forever grateful for her guidance and Christian example.
After working at Emerson Electric, Weldon’s Prescription Shop, Schield’s Pharmacy, and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, she eventually “retired” to become a full-time nana to the joys of her life, Lexi and Ana. Marie loved spending time with them. She could always be found playing dress-up or having tea parties. As the girls went to school, she became their chauffeur and their morning chef, often making “Roundy-Go” for breakfast. She followed them in sports and traveling and always encouraged them to lean into the Lord.
Marie had a love for reading. She read the entire Bible, cover to cover, and could always be found listening to old gospel music, from the Gaithers to the Swaggarts, and was a faithful member of Damascus Road Fellowship. She also enjoyed relaxing at the lake house, attending family parties, eating out with friends, and participating in her monthly Bible study. Her sweet personality, comforting words, and ability to always put others first will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Mark and Linda,
So sorry to hear about your loss! Losing a parent is difficult, even if we suspect it’s getting closer because of age. Our parents hold a very sacred part of our hearts. Praying God’s comfort and peace be with you, Lexi and Ana, and your extended family as you walk through this.

To the Hurst Family,
My husband and I were out of town and I just now learned of Marie’s sudden passing. I am so very sorry for this heartbreaking loss. She was one-of-a-kind; a person who truly cared about others. A living embodiment of everything Christ teaches us. I’m glad I knew her. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. No doubt the Lord’s first words to her were, “Well done good and faithful servant, well done.”
