George was a graduate of Assumption High School (1963), University of Illinois, Champaign, IL A.B. Liberal Arts & Science, (1967) (Major Political Science) Law, J.D. (1970). He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Law School.
He was admitted into the practice of law in 1970 and was the managing partner of the law firm Ripplinger & Zimmer, LLC.
Mr. Ripplinger served over 30 years in the U.S. Army Reserves- Medical Services Corps and retired with the rank of Colonel.
He was a member of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA), American Bar Association (ABA), Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), Sierra Club, and many more.
His efforts have been recognized by many professional and civic awards including the Distinguished Service to Law and Society Award from Fellows of the ISBA and being elected to the ISBA Assembly, the supreme policy making body of the ISBA.
Of his many awards and recognitions he was most proud of his work with youth, which he felt to be the most effective means of positively impacting the future. He was an Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow member. He received the prestigious honor of the BSA Silver Beaver Award for outstanding service to BSA and to his community.
George was a strong conservationist adamantly advocating our duty to be responsible custodians of our Earth. He was a certified Sierra Club Outings Leader who taught an appreciation of nature and the wilderness.
George had an adventuresome spirit, supporting a variety of interests that he pursued energetically such a sailing, snow skiing, travel, mountaineering and backpacking which included an arduous trek to the Mt. Everest ascent base camp in Nepal. He was very proud of his French American heritage and proudly proclaimed himself to being a “Frog,” perhaps partly as a result he was a gourmet well-versed in fine wines and haute cuisine. He was a wealth of knowledge, practical and trivial. Along with a penchant for regimentation and organization, he was a capable and most willing leader in the time of need, whether it be a mechanical break-down in the middle of nowhere or translation of a French menu. All admirable and useful qualities and abilities, not always so in casual social interactions. However, it was balanced by one of his most endearing qualities of not taking himself too seriously and good-naturedly accepting ribbing.
George Ripplinger lived life to its fullest and leaves a world made better by his presence and will be greatly missed and ever fondly remembered by those who knew and loved him.

So sorry for your loss.
George was a good friend and a dedicated Scouter (recipient of the Silver Beaver and Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor). He enriched my life, and I’m proud to have backpacked and Scouted with him. Heartfelt prayers to Terry and all of George’s family.

George was an incredible friend and phenomenal leader. His leadership of the ABA General Practice Solo and. Small Firm Division took the Division to higher heights. His smile was infectious and his trust genuine. We will always have a special place in our hearts for our dear friend.
I knew George from his many visits to my Scout Shop. He will be dearly missed.
A great guy and someone who was never afraid to take on an unpopular case because it was the right thing to do. Few attorneys will ever know the courage this man possessed. He truly was one in a million. An individual who will be missed.
George is the most decent person I’ve ever known. Upright and honest he’s well prepared for hereafter. He will sorely be missed. My condolences to his family neighbors loved ones and friends. We will miss our dear brother in law, George. We had many beautiful family celebrations and a few camping experiences with George – a great camper and a great brother in law. We are so sorry, Terry, that you have lost your love, but he’ll remain in your heart forever.

George was so much to so many. He wanted to help everyone and he helped so many. He gave many hours to volunteering his services. He was 30 years in the Army reserves retiring as a Colonel. In the Boy Scouts he received the highest honors of order of the Arrow And the Silver Beaver . He was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grand father. He loved his friends to no end. He loved life. He loved to travel, hike, eat good food and drink good wine. I miss him so much. I am lost without him.
Condolences to the Ripplinger family. George was a friend for many years. He was a great attorney and a wonderful person. He was relentless in his pursuit of excellence in everything he did. He was a person of character, as evidenced by when he temporarily lost practice privileges, he fought back and was reinstated, instead of taking a different route. He would not be defeated. He liked the Boy Scouts, he liked to travel and he enjoyed life. He was one of a kind. He left a lasting impression. His was a life well-lived.
