Dennis Joseph Thomas, 63, born in Spokane, Washington and passed away peacefully on February 3, 2023 at his home in Waterloo, Illinois after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Dennis served 7 years in the United States Army stationed in Germany as a Technical Sergeant performing maintenance on generators and compressors. While in the army Dennis received the National Defense and Good Conduct medals. After leaving the army he worked at Walmart in Belleville, Illinois assembling lawnmowers and bicycles.
Dennis enjoyed playing darts and frequently organized leagues and events. He made a garden each year with vegetables and flowers and maintained the yard of the family home. Dennis was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Belleville and member of Gothic Lodge #852 A.F. & A.M.
Dennis was survived by his:
- Mother: Gwyneth, nee Prince, Thomas
- Sister: Elaine (Newlyn) Thomas-Horton of Waterloo IL
- Aunt: Yvonne McDaniel of Sauget, IL
- (Aunt) Joy Wallace of Belleville, IL
- Many beloved cousins
Dennis was preceded in death by his:
- Father: Joseph Thomas
- Birth mother: Clara Jane, nee Jones, Thomas
- Beloved grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins

Visitation: Visitation from 10:00am to Noon on Saturday February 11, 2023 at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm Noon at Kurrus Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Black officiating.
Burial: Procession will leave Kurrus Funeral Home at 10:15am on Monday, February 13, 2023 for a 11:00am graveside service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

You were a lovely person that I had the privilege to know. You were a good friend of my brother Rob Kebel. I remember some good times we all had together in our younger years.
I new Dennis at Belleville Township High School West ! He new my deep love for motorcycles and would always keep me informed about his cousin “McDaniels” Dirt Bike Action !!! Rest In Peace Dennis ! Roger
I worked with Dennis at Fairview Photo, my parents business, in the mid 80’s. I am sorry to hear of his passing. He was a kind man and was great to work with. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Rest in Peace Dennis.
