Carol Jean Gaa, nee Nance, 73, of Belleville, Illinois, born Friday, December 10, 1948, in East Saint Louis, IL, died Sunday, August 21, 2022 at her residence in Belleville, Illinois.
Carol worked as a Teachers Aide at Grant School with hearing impaired students. She then went back to school herself, getting a Bachelors and Masters degrees from SIUC to become an Adult Education Teacher for SWIC. Carol was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Belleville Sister Cities. She enjoyed playing cards with her card club ladies, spending time with her grandchildren, and relaxing at the camper in Marissa.
She was preceded in death by her:

- Father-in-law and mother-in-law: Stanley A. and Marie E. Gaa

- Husband: Gerald “Jerry” D. Gaa of Belleville, IL
- Mother: Ruth Nance of Belleville, IL

- Bruce (Shay) Mason of Hickory, NC

Memorials: Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent Depaul, St. Mary’s Parish or BJC Hospice.
Visitation: Visitation from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, Illinois.
Funeral: Funeral procession will leave at 9:40am from Kurrus Funeral Home for a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, August 26, 2022 at St. Mary Catholic Church Belleville, IL, with Msgr. Bill McGhee officiating. Interment will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.

Carol was one of the most kind, loving people I’ve ever met. You couldn’t help but love her. I am so honored to have been grafted into her family and I rejoice that she is with her Savior and is free of her suffering. We will see her again one glorious day!
I worked with Carol for many years at SWIC. She was full of energy, compassion and grace! Her laugher was contagious!

So sorry for your loss. I worked with Carol many years ago at Stifel Nicolaus. She was a wonderful woman who dearly loved her family.
Carol was a fun, compassionate and loving person. I am honored to have had her as a friend. She loved you, Jerry, and all of her family. Will always remember the fun weekend we had with you two at the Ozarks, as well as, the fun time we had at Carlyle Lake. She will be missed but never forgotten. Thoughts and prayers.
