Thomas Lynn Johnson, 70, of Belleville, IL, born Monday, July 7, 1952, in Norwich, NY, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at his residence in Belleville, IL.

Chief Master Sergeant Thomas L. Johnson is a native of Norwich, New York. He attended Western Oklahoma State College and Altus Oklahoma. He has been awarded an Associate’s Degree from the Community College of the Air Force. He graduated from the Air Force Longistics Command NCO Academy 1978; completed the USAF Senior NCO Academy by correspondence, 1983; completed the Classroom Instructor Course, 1983. He graduated as “Distinguished Graduate” from the USAF Senior Academy, March 1987.

Chief Johnson entered the Air Force in 1970 and completed the Reciprocating Engine Aircraft Maintenance Specialist Course, Sheppard Technical Training Center, Wichita Falls, Texas. He completed the C-141 flight Engineer Transition Training Course in September 1975 at Altus AFB, Oklahoma. His assignments included Minot AFB, North Dakota,: Da Nang AB, Republic of Vietnam; Randolph AFB, Texas: Charleston AFB, South Carolina; Altus AFB, Oklahoma, and Scott AFB, Illinois.

Chief Johnson is an Enlisted Aircrew Member with over 7700 hours in the C-141A/B. He became an instructor flight engineer in 1978 and flight examiner in 1981. He became an academic instructor in 1983. Additionally, he holds the aircraft and Munitious Maintenance Badge.

Chief Johnson’s military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal; Air Force Commendation Medal; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor Device; Air Force Organizational Excellence Award; Combat Readiness Medal; Air Force Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Southwest Asia Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal; Air Force Short Tour Ribbon; Air Force Longevity Service Award; NCO Graduate Ribbon; small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon; Air Force Training Ribbon; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; and the Kuwait Liberation Medal.
He owned Diana’s Landscaping and Lawn Service for 15 years.

Tommy was my boss at Altus. Probably the best NCOIC I ever worked for. Rest in peace brother.
