Syd, Gary, Sue, and family I am saddened to hear of Matt’s passing, it truly breaks my heart. Matt was a diamond in the rough. His love and compassion for life and family will truly be missed. I will remember him for his zest for life, smile, and wit. “He kept at true good humour’s mark, the social flow of pleasure’s tide: He never made a brow look dark, nor caused a tear, but when he died.”

Matt was lucky enough to come from a loving, strong and close family. His many friends and family are forever changed for the better for having known and loved him. Matt’s smile was bright, his heart was big and he will be remembered by those who loved him as long as we walk this path. I am honored to have loved him. Miss you Matt. RIP

I did not know Matthew, however having worked with Gary for many years and knowing the caring, compassionate, honorable man Gary is and knowing he would have passed along those traits to Matthew, many would have been lucky to have been called Matthew’s friend. Our department here at Southwestern Illinois College is saddened to hear of Matthew’s passing and will continue to have your family in our prayers.

Gary and Sue, we are so sorry and heart broken about Matt. There aren’t any words. We think of all the soccer games and social activities we had with your family when Matt and Ryan were in Junior High and High School. Matt was a streak on the soccer field, so talented and full of joy! We loved cheering him on! You are in our prayers and Matt is in God’s arms. Mike, Linda, and Ryan Carroll
