Marion L. Mathenia, nee Brown, 81, of Belleville, IL, born Friday, July 5, 1940, in East St. Louis, IL, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.
Marion was a member of the St. Clair County Genealogical Society and a master gardener.
She was preceded in death by her:
- Husband, Joe Mathenia
- Parents, James and Faye Bernice, nee Martin, Brown
- Son-in-Law, Thomas Wharton

- Sister, Gloria Bullock of Belleville, IL
- Nephew, Bill White of Cahokia Heights, IL

- Val Mathenia
- Remy Mathenia
- Lilly Mathenia
- Great grandchild, Aiden Black
- Many step-grandchildren and great step-grandchildren
Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Service: Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 9th, 2022 at Belleville Swansea Moose Lodge #1221, 2425 N. Illinois Street, Swansea, IL 62226.

Dear Gloria and all of Marion’s family- So sorry of your loss. She is such a wonderful person. Marion gives of herself, caring, loving and ALWAYS a cheer-leader for all of her family. Never judgemental but very measured in her outlook. She touched so many and was such a positive energy you wanted to be around her. I speak of her in the present, cause if you knew her, much less was part of her family, you carry her gifts she shared with all of us. Always lending an ear, celebrating a triumph, no matter how small or large, and always, always ready to “play in the dirt”! We each carry a part of Marion with us and and are better for her example. I know I will never forget her and will always think of her every time I see a bloom.
