Karen Louise McDaniel Buesking of Kansas City, MO, loving mother and friend, and a well-known former Metro East cosmetologist, died Friday, December 4, 2020 at North Care Hospice in Kansas City, MO.
She was born on July 27, 1955 in East St. Louis, IL; the daughter of Fred Lee McDaniel and Louise Houston McDaniel of Belleville, IL. Karen attended schools in East St. Louis; Morrison Public, St. Patrick’s Catholic and St. Teresa’s Academy, from which she graduated in 1973.
After graduating from the Academy of Beauty Culture in Belleville, Karen opened her first beauty salon, The Wave, in 1976. Karen married Craig Buesking; son of Forest and Lorraine Buesking of Belleville, on May 21, 1988 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and soon after, moved to Kansas City, MO.
Karen continued her cosmetology education through attendance at many special seminars and schools taught by experts in the United States and London, England. She too was sought after as a teacher for her creative and innovative techniques in hair styling. Until this year, and the start of COVID-19 and the shutdown of hair salons, Karen was a partner at a large salon in Kansas City, Salon Ego’s.
Karen was known as a loving mother to her daughters and a lover of nature and all animals. She and her family spent countless weekends boating and camping all over the Mid-west with their Labrador retrievers. As a creative, Karen also had an appreciation for all things art and fashion and had what her friends would call “an eye for style and design.”
Karen was proceeded in death by her husband, Craig Buesking (January 7, 2007); her father Fred McDaniel (December 18, 1991); her sister Kathleen McDaniel Baudendistel (December 22, 2006); her grandmother Alice Underwood Houston (July 17, 2011); and her grandfather Jack Houston (November 22, 1967).
She is survived by her loving daughters: McLane Louise Buesking of Kansas City, MO and Kyndal Lee Buesking Wolf and her partner Darren Hunt, of Kansas City, MO; one granddaughter, Harper; her mother, Louise Houston McDaniel of Belleville; her brother, J. Kevin McDaniel; sister-in-law, Colleen Halloran McDaniel; brother-in-law, William Baudendistel, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members and friends.
Cremation has taken place per Karen’s wishes. A Celebration of Karen ‘s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions are suggested to the family for Harper’s College Education or to the donor’s choice. Karen was one of the first girls I met at St. Teresa’s Academy. Funny, welcoming and so mischievous! She has a great energy and spirit! She was a Big Person and I am sure she leaves a big space in the hearts of those (many) that loved her! I spent many Friday nights at her house! We watched old movies Bing Crosby and Bob Hope – her family was extremely warm and kind.

STA, and being a couple years older and my sisters age, their group was always up to mischief. Lol. She always had a great smile and beautiful eyes
She will be missed and I’m sure Her sister Kathy and father were glad to see her. Fly high with the Angels Karen!!! RIP

Karen was always a ball of energy with the biggest smile and a kind word. I went to St Patrick’s and STA with Karen I know she is watching over her daughters and grand baby. Rest In Peace. You will be missed

My Parents, Roy and Dolores Webb we’re good friends with Karen’s Father Freddie, and mother Louise , back in the day. I remember when she and her sister would outgrow their bikes they would give them to me. Don’t remember much more as when Freddie and my Dad passed lost touch with their family. I did remain wonderful friends with Freddie’s Aunt and Uncle Earl and Earline , until their passing in Florida.
