JoNell Thorn, nee Zimmerman, 93, of Belleville, IL, born Wednesday, December 8, 1926 in Scott City, MO, passed away Monday, February 17, 2020 at her residence in Belleville, IL.
JoNell was a yard clerk for St. Louis Southwestern RR. She was a member with St. Matthew United Methodist Church, New Life Choir in Belleville, IL and Rob Morris Chapter #98 O.E.S. She volunteered at St. Paul Nursing Home Auxiliary, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Thrift Shop at St. Matthew.
God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not be. So HE put his arms around you and whispered “Come to ME”. With a tearful eyes we watched you suffer and saw you fading away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to St. Matthew Methodist Church -Belleville, IL, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Belleville Area Humane Society.
Visitation: Visitation from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Friday, February 21, 2020 at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL with Rob Morris Chapter #98 O.E.S. Service at 7:00 pm.
Funeral: Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Kurrus Funeral Home, with Rev. Larry Patton officiating. Interment will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory Mausoleum, Belleville, IL.

Aunt Jo I know you’re finally resting in peace because you’re with Uncle Pete. sorry I was unable to be with you during your final days but I will always remember the times I spent with you during Uncle Pete’s final days and nursing you through a broken hip. One day we’ll be together and celebrating with our Lord Jesus Christ

Jonell was such a treasure. Such fond memories I have of worshipping with her at St. Matthew. She was a dear friend to many. I never saw her without a smile.

Dear family of JoNell,
I grew up with JoNell and Pete and Steve as my neighbors. My Mom, Rose Aye, was great friends with JoNell. She always had a smile on her face and was such a sweetie! She had such strong faith and was a wonderful inspiration to me. I will miss her but happy she is with her family and Our Lord!

My name is Halta Zachary, my Dad Halton Zachary and my brother Paul Zachary offer our condolences to Aunt JoNell and her family. We know her because she was married to our Uncle Pete Thorn who was the my Mother’s favorite Uncle. My Mom and Dad enjoyed many happy times with Pete and JoNell, they took many cruises and vacations together. My brother and I talked to her about a year ago. He tried calling her home phone tonight and it was disconnected. So he went online and found her Obit. Aunt JoNell was very special to all of us and I’m sorry we didn’t get another chance to see her. My Dad suffers from severe dementia and Aunt JoNell wouldn’t fly by herself so we didn’t get another opportunity to see her. We will always have fond memories of the times we spent together. She was a loving Aunt and we will miss her.
