Gail Ann Stoldt, 80, of Belleville, IL, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, MO due to an acute case of cancer.
Gail was born October 23, 1943, in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Pauline Leona, nee Reynolds, Williams. She graduated from Shelbyville High School Class of 1961 and attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale for 2 years. Gail lived in Lincoln, Illinois for most of her life and worked at Lincoln Development Center for 35 years.
She married James L. Stoldt on July 31, 1998 and after retirement Gail did a lot of traveling with her husband. At the age of 54 Gail learned to ski and became a working “Ski Bum” in Colorado. They spent time in Alaska, Montana, Florida, and Nevada. She also enjoyed taking cruises. When not traveling, she loved going on adventures with her girls, spending time with family and friends, playing cards, games and having fun.
She was preceded in death by her:

Gail was such a breath of fresh air! She told it how it was and always had a good story to tell. We enjoyed going to theater shows with her and having her and Jim at family cookouts. She will be missed by our whole family.

When Gail and Jim would visit down here, in the Melbourne Florida area, it was always a pleasure to be around Gail. It was easy and enjoyable to have nice discussions with her. She was a very positive person and fun to talk with. I’ll always remember her pleasant smile and demeanor. Gail will be dearly missed down here.

Gail Stoldt was one of the most popular members of the Samba Card Players Group of Florida’s Space Coast. She was always the first to start the group laughing and astonish us with a clever play. Once, when accused of having an uneven haircut, she insisted that a fellow player correct the situation there and then — even though the only sharp instrument at hand was a nail clippers! Funny, smart, kind, empathetic: Gail was loved by all of us and is missed terribly.
