Emily V. (Cody), Hofmeister, 73, of Belleville, IL, born Thursday, May 25, 1950, in St. Louis, MO, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.
She was preceded in death by her:
- Parents: Thomas and Geraldine (Coleman) Cody
- Brother: Christopher Cody
- Sisters
- Gerry McCarthy
- Edith Mayse
Surviving are her:
- Husband of 53 years: Lawrence “Larry” D. Hofmeister of Belleville, IL
- Children
- Kristine (Jay) Huber
- Amy Papproth
- Larry Hofmeister (Casey Valentine)
- Sisters
- Fran Cody
- Barbara Perez
- Grandchildren
- Addie Hofmeister
- Eilee Papproth
- Amyah Papproth
- Braelynn Hofmeister
- Kindal Hofmeister
- also surviving are her many nieces and nephews
Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children’s in St. Louis or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Funeral: In honor of Emily’s wishes, there will not be a visitation or funeral. As Emily would say, “If you didn’t come to see me while I was alive, you don’t need to see me when I’m dead.”
Emily’s family would like for those who knew her to celebrate Emily in their own way.

I have no words to describe how much we will miss our mom.
We will celebrate her forever in our hearts, and ESPECIALLY when we laugh so hard we have tears running down our legs!

We are so sorry for your loss. We know Aunt Emily is in comfort and peace and we are keeping you and the entire family in our prayers that you will get through this difficult time and find your peace. It is so fitting that there be donations to children in Aunt Emily’s name because laughter is an essential part of a child’s childhood and she was the Queen of Laughter. No one’s life will be the same without a sore tummy or eyes from her wit. She will be missed💚

I am soo very sorry to hear of Emilys passing. Many fun times at the river were had! She touched every life in a special way. We still giggle picturing her run after the tent while camping on the river! Lots of tears running down her leg. She will be truly missed! Hugs and prayers to you all.
