Edgar D. Goodwin, of Belleville, IL, born Tuesday, September 16, 1930, in Sandoval, IL, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022 at the San Gabriel Assisted Living Memory Care in Highland, IL.

Edgar enlisted in the US Air Force after graduating from High School in 1948. He served 7 years in the Military in the Korean War and 30 years in Federal Civil Service. During his time in the Air Force, he received the Korean Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal and he survived a plane crash at Ellington A. F. B. in Houston, Texas.

He married Erma Jean Kurth in 1955 and was blessed with 2 children; LaDean and Roger. He worked as an aircraft mechanic at Scott A.F.B. and then was a Branch Manager in providing parts and maintenance instructions for U. S. Army Helicopters at AVSCOM in St. Louis, Mo. He retired in 1985 with a total of 37 years of service (Military and Civilian).

He enjoyed traveling, reading and restoring, repairing and refinishing old furniture. His grandchildren, Kathryn, Christian, Colin and Hannah were the apples of his eye. After the death of Erma Jean, he married Meredith Gatewood.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to St. Matthew U.M.C. New Life Club.

Visitation: Visitation from 9:00 am – 11:00 am, Monday, June 20, 2022, at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL.

Funeral: Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, June 20th, 2022 at Kurrus Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Patton officiating. Interment will follow at Carlyle Cemetery in Carlyle, IL.

Meredith, I am so sorry to hear this. Ed and I had a special relationship after having the privilege of working with him at Bank of Belleville. He will be missed by all that knew him. Prayers for you and your family. Love you. 🙏
