Dr. David L. Snowden, of Belleville,IL born January 11, 1937 in Greenville, IL died Thursday February 16, 2023 surrounded by family after a brief illness.
He graduated from the University of Illinois with Bachelor and Masters degrees and later earned his PhD in History from Saint Louis University. He taught American History for 28 years at BTHS West High School in Belleville. He enjoyed classic movies, watching sports, model trains and was a longtime member of First United Presbyterian Church..
David was preceded in death by his mother Ella Vahrenhold Snowden, father J.P. “Perk” Snowden, father in law Charles Monahan and mother in law Esther Monahan.
Survived by his wife of 59 years Marilyn (Monahan) Snowden originally from Suffern, NY. Father of Stacey (Joe) Haake of Bartelso, IL, Charles Snowden of Palm Springs, CA, Leslie (Wayne) Kullman of Glenview, IL, Sean (Sheri) Snowden of Chicago, IL, Devon (Amanda) Snowden of Downers Grove, IL. and Ryan (Deanna) Snowden of Joliet, IL.
Grandfather of 10: Cameron and Nolan Haake, Henry, Charlie, Phoebe and Teddy Kullman, Madeline and Abby Snowden, and Seren and Liana Snowden.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to BJC Hospice or First United Presbyterian Church in Belleville, IL.
There will be a private family memorial at a later date.
