Dorothy Hackmann, nee Kopp, of Belleville, Illinois, born Monday, February 6, 1928, in St. Charles, Missouri passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 96 years of age. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy and her twin sister Doris were born to parents, John and Edna Kopp. They were a complete surprise to their parents. Her mom said it was a lot of work but their Dad was very happy to show them off. Their life was a happy one. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. After graduating from St. Charles High School in 1946. Dorothy completed Miss Hickey’s Business School program in St. Louis, Missouri on October 2, 1948. She was married to Robert (Bob) Hackmann, also, of St. Charles, Missouri. They lived in St. Charles for seven years and then moved to Belleville, Illinois. When her children were born she resigned from office work and became a devoted wife and mother. She made many sacrifices for her family throughout her life, always putting them first. Dorothy was an active member of Signal Hill Lutheran Church for over 60 years. She always volunteered at church serving in as many ways as she could. This included singing in the choir and teaching the young children in Sunday School. She volunteered at Memorial Hospital Auxiliary where she received an award for donating over 8000 hours of service. She was also a member of PEO Chapter KC, a philanthropic organization where the advancement of women is celebrated.

Dorothy was an amazing seamstress, making many of her own clothes. Family and friends often asked her to mend or alter some article of clothing and she was always happy to do so. Playing bridge and pinochle was another hobby and she played on a regular basis with neighbors and church groups. Her passions, however, were working on puzzles and Cardinal baseball. She was known for her ability to solve even the most difficult puzzles and loved discussing the latest Cardinal game.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her:

Hackmann Family – We are sending our love and prayers to all of you. We have so many fond memories of growing up with Dorothy and our grandma and she will be greatly missed. She was always so kind, interested in what we were doing, and fit seamlessly into our holiday events like a second grandma! What an amazing life to get to partake in with all the love of her kids, grandkids and great grand kids for 96 years, and now she is reunited with your dad and her sister, amongst many other loved ones!
