Our lives were linked since 1948 when our fathers were killed together in the crash of a small plane. Our Mothers were great friends after that as were grew up together on Queeny Avenue. I am heart broken.

David was the leader of our rag tag group of kids growing up in the village. If we were mischievous it was because he lead us there. He also lead us from sport to sport as the seasons changed. He was a great athlete , always excelling at everything he did. My parents adored David.

I relied on David as a patrolman in the village to keep an eye on my brother’s children as he was killed when they were quite small. He never let me down and had a great relationship with them as the years went on.

RIP David Cleveland, you were the best and you will be missed.

I had the privilege of working with Dave on the Sauget Police Department from 1984 until his retirement in 2010. Dave loved serving the community in which he lived. I will cherish the good times we had over the years.

RIP my friend.

I had the privilege of being trained by Sergeant David Cleveland when I was hired on the Sauget Police Department. David was a great trainer. He will be missed by many, but I will never forget him, he was a great Police Officer.
