Though we had connected through social media, It’s been decades since I’ve seen Carl in person. We went to high school together, and he was one I enjoyed keeping up with! I don’t have a specific memory to share from high school, but rather that I have memory of kindness. There’s a saying in teaching about how students won’t remember information you teach, but they will remember how you made them feel. I think that’s true of humans in general, and Carl reminds me of kindness, of warmth. I’m so, so sorry for his loss and for all those who will miss him immensely.

I am so terribly sorry for you loss. Though we didn’t speak much over the years, I’ve always had a soft spot for Carl. In high school, he was in my homeroom class. There were a few kids in there that were not very nice to me, but Carl would save me a seat so I could sit with him and he would keep them from bothering me. We would have great conversations over those four years. I remember him singing “The River” at our graduation dinner. To this day, every time I hear that song, I think of Carl. We also met up again in college. I was teaching Agricultural Economics 101 at UT and in strolled Carl, looking ever the handsome cowboy. He came to all of my extra sessions because he was so dedicated to getting his degree and doing well. I will always think of Carl with warm memories. He was truly a kind and wonderful man. I am praying for his family and hope they are able to find comfort knowing Carl touched many peoples’ lives over the years.

I last saw Carl at our 20 year HS reunion. My favorite memory is when he sang a Garth Brooks song, either The Dance or The River, at our Senior Banquet. He had a beautiful voice! I can still see him sitting in front of all of us with his guitar, wearing his cowboy hat, and singing. Carl always had a smile on his face and kind word for everyone. He made the world a better place. I’m sorry to hear of his passing and am praying for his family and all that knew him.

So very sorry to learn of Carl’s untimely passing. Did not know him, but our friendship with his parents assures us he was a fine Christian man. We’re praying for all of his family, and looking forward – with you – to our reunion with loved ones in the presence of the Lamb.

To the boy I once knew, with the gray mustang and the red Cardinals t-shirt, who drove fast, laughed loud, and loved hard, I look back affectionately at that short season of life we shared. You had a wild spirit that could not be tamed, but also the kindest and most tender of hearts. Ferdinand the Bull. My memories of you are happy ones. I can only imagine how heartbroken your family must be to lose you, I will continue to pray for them. I know you are rejoicing in God’s glorious kingdom, a beautiful eternity stretched out in front of you, with Jesus by your side and Dudley in your arms. Although we said our goodbyes many years ago, truth be told, you deserved a better one from me. So farewell, Carl Wollenburg, my old friend, you will stay forever 23 in my memory. May your sweet soul rest in peace.

Stacey- your beautiful words brought so many happy and fun memories flooding back. My Sarah still has a figurine that you gave to her so many years ago. I read this to my parents and they are truly grateful to you for this wonderful tribute.
Our parents are comforted by all of the love for Carl that so many have shared. I can close my eyes and picture the scene you set of Carl, Jesus, and Dudley.
I miss him terribly. But Carl had an unwavering faith. We rejoice in knowing that he is healed from all sickness and home with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Thank you so much for sharing. Blessings to you and your family.
