Betty B. Bivens, nee Fessel, 90, of Belleville, IL, born Saturday, April 15, 1933, in East St. Louis, IL, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.
Betty was a Customer Service Supervisor for Boatmen’s National Bank – St. Louis, MO. She was a member of O’Fallon United Church of Christ in O’Fallon IL, Past President of Dorchester Neighborhood Association and Al Sihah Temple #29 Daughter of the Nile.
She was preceded in death by her:
- Husband, James E. Bivens
- Parents, Gilbert A. and Viola, nee Schwartz, Fessel
Surviving are her:
- Son, James E. (Chris) Bivens II of Millstadt, IL
- Daughter, Tammy Barton of Belleville, IL

Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children’s – St. Louis, MO or the Wounded Warrior Project.
Visitation: Visitation from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, Monday, April 15, 2024 at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL.
Funeral: A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, April 15, 2024 at Kurrus Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Martha Thierheimer officiating. Private Family Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.

Tammy and Jim, I am so saddened to see this. Your mom was the sweetest person in the world. She was so tolerant of the “revolving door” that was your house when we were teenagers. Drug in horse hair and dirt by the ton, and she just smiled and laughed. She was the best, and I’ll treasure my memories of the times I was around her. I am so sorry I’ll miss her services: will be back in CO, but please know I’ll be thinking of you all and keeping you in my prayers.

Hello Casey and family. Betty and I go back many years as acquaintances. We met at the bank only but spoke as thogh we had know each other for a long time. We lost touch for a long time then I met her at the Immanuel Church in East st Louis when I visited there. Again we lost touch until one day I look ip and who strolled in as beautiful as ever but Betty. It was an electric moment. Many had no idea of the reason for our long hugs tears and conversation. We contiued to meet at church and share many stories of children, grand children and life.
Betty gave so much love to everyone , she will be missed.
You are in my heart and prayers.
