Barbara S. Knavel, nee Thompson, 64 of Belleville, IL, , passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at her residence surrounded by family. Barb was born on October 4, 1959 in Peoria, IL, the only child of Harry B. and Louise, nee Plank, Thompson.
Barb was a teacher for Harmony, Emge/Ellis School district 175 in Belleville as well as a pastors wife and musician. She has a degree in Fashion Merchandising from Patricia Stevens College, a degree in Computer Technology from Ivy Tech, a degree in Christian Education from Lincoln Christian University and a degree in Early Childhood Education from University of Illinois, Springfield.
She served beside her husband at churches in Springfield, IL, Flora, IL and Belleville serving as worship leader, Christian Education director and teacher. She was a member of CrossPointe Christian Church in Lebanon, IL.
She was preceded in death by her:
- Parents, Harry B. and Louise, nee Plank, Thompson.
Surviving are her:
- Husband of 32 years, Christopher “Kip” Knavel of Belleville, IL
- Sons:
- Sam Knavel of Belleville, IL
- Alex Knavel of Belleville, IL
- Sister-in-law, Lisa (Darrell) Milam of Fairfield, IL

Visitation: Visitation from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL.
Funeral: Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Kurrus Funeral Home, with Charlie McGee officiating. Private interment.
