Ava Ruth Meyer, nee Clark, 88, of O’Fallon, IL, born Wednesday, July 19, 1933, in Noxapater, MS, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Sycamore Village Assisted Living in Swansea, IL.

Ava completed her degree in home economics education at Mississippi University for Women (formerly Mississippi State College for Women). She also pursued post-graduate education at University of Missouri-Columbia and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Ava started her teaching career in Washington, Mo. She also taught at schools in Belleville, IL and Madison, IL, including teaching nutrition to nursing students at Southwest Illinois College (formerly BAC). She and Albert met and married in Washington, MO. They lived and taught there until they moved to Cahokia, IL and then Belleville. She later worked for the US Military Records Center, and she was employed by and retired from the US National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in St. Louis. Ava was also an active volunteer throughout her adulthood. She served as a Girl Scout leader for her daughters’ troops at Abraham Lincoln Grade School, and she took the role of Camp Director at Camp Keck for two summers. She also volunteered for the American Heart Association and St. Matthew Methodist Church, where she was an active member. Ava was very curious and interested in learning about anything new that she came across. She loved to read, compose poetry, cuddle her cats, do handiwork, do crossword puzzles, work jigsaw puzzles, music, and above all, spend time with her granddaughters.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to the St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Belleville, IL.

Visitation: Visitation from 3:00 – 6:00 pm, Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL.

Funeral: Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Kurrus Funeral Home, with Rev. Doug Stewart officiating. Private interment at Noxapater Methodist Cemetery in Noxapater, MS.

I remember her being such a sweet and gentle lady, and she raised such two beautiful daughters! Prayers and condolences for you all.

So sorry Margy and Ruth. I just remembered that she was a Girl Scout leader after reading this. So many memories. She was an amazing lady.

Please accept our sincere condolences. I remember your mom fondly, from Girl Scouts and playing at your house when we were kids. She was a wonderful person!
