Lina "Joe" Holcomb

Lina Joe "Joe" Holcomb, nee Peele, 93, of Virginia Beach, VA, born Monday, February 12, 1917, in Lewiston, North Carolina, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Mrs. Holcomb was a retired executive secretary for Civil Service at Scott Air Force Base for 30 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Belleville, IL where she held many positions. She was also a member of Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in Belleville.

She was preceded in death by her:

  • Husband: James W. Holcomb
  • Parents: Joseph Jackson and Lina nee Hoggard Peele
  • Sister: Margaret Peele Bazemore
  • Infant Niece: Lynn Darden Bazemore

Surviving are her:

  • Niece: Alease (Gene) Bazemore Bunch of Richmond, VA
  • Cousin: Beth (Larry) Browning of Virginia Beach, VA
  • Beloved "Grandchildren"

Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Shriners Hospital for Children.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9 to 11 am, Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at the Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Kurrus Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Robinson officiating. Private interment will be held at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville IL.

    I knew "Joe" years ago when I was a member of First Baptist Church. I have many fond memories of Joe. She was a dear friend and a find lady I was proud to know. Special condolences to her sister in law Ruth. Doris Nelson
