Robert Meyer
Robert L. Meyer, 86, of Belleville, IL, born Tuesday, September 4, 1933, in Belleville, IL, died Sunday, March 7, 2010 at his residence after a hard fought and gallant battle with bladder cancer.
Robert was a lifelong resident of Belleville. As a youth, constantly looking for challenges and for ways to excel, he became very active in the Boy Scouts and quickly advanced to Eagle Scout. At Belleville Township High School, he was active in track, Student Council, band, newspaper, and the Lettermen's Club (Pole Vaulting) a member of Quill and Scroll, International Honorary Journalism Society and the National Honor Society.
While attending the Washington University School of Engineering, he participated in Track and Field, was a member of the Scabbard and Blade, National Honorary Military Fraternity of the ROTC and Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He also was a swimming instructor, lifeguard and assistant manager of the St. Clair Country Club Swimming Pool.
In his early career he worked for McDonnell Douglas and eventually became self employed and provided services for design, sales and installation of high quality and leading edge technology and systems for heating and cooling in commercial and residential buildings. His skill in designing and creating advanced systems was superb. Robert was a consummate lifetime student of engineering and design and his work was always a piece of art and a marvel from an engineering standpoint.
He has a special way of livening up conversations with his uncanny ability to cast the world in the realm of math, details and decimal points. He loved automobiles and was a master mechanic who could fix anything on any car. He served his family generously giving of his time and labor to a variety of projects. He was always trying to make things better. Robert will be dearly missed by all who loved him.

Memorials: The family encourages donations be made to the American Cancer Society with a special request that funds be directed to Bladder and Kidney Cancer Research.
