James F. Galvin Jr.
James F. Galvin, Jr. 95, of Belleville, Illinois, born Sunday, February 4, 1917, in East Saint Louis, IL, died Friday, March 16, 2012 at Dammert Geriatric Center in Belleville, Illinois.
He graduated from St. Louis University in 1938 and was the Secretary/Treasurer of McLean & Galvin, Inc., a real estate and insurance firm in East Saint Louis and Fairview Heights.
He was Past President of the East St. Louis Exchange Club, Board of Realtors, and the Ambassadors Club of the East St. Louis Chamber of Commerece. He was also a former member of the Board of Directors of St. Mary's Hospital, and the East St. Louis Insurance Bureau. He was a life member of Knights of Columbus Council 592, and an honorary life member of the Belleville Board of Realtors. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge 1221 in Swansea, BPOE Elks 481 in Belleville, IL., and Blessed Sacrament Church in Belleville.
He was a WWII veteran and after being drafted into the Army in November of 1941 he spent 2 1/2 years as an instructor at Ft. Knox, KY and then was a tank gunner for the 772 tank battalion in France and Germany. After being injured in action, he was sent to the hospital in White Sulphur Springs, WV, and had surgery in Martinsburg, WV. He was discharged in December of 1945 as a Private 1st Class.
He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed participating in various choirs, to include 16 years with the former Belleville Barbershop Chorus. More recently, he sang with the Silver Tones, the Alley Katz Meow, the Senior Harmony Singers (subsidiary of the BellNotes Chorus), and the Blessed Sacrament Church Choir.

Funeral: A funeral procession will leave from Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL at 9:45am Wednesday, March 21, 2012 for a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Belleville, Illinois with Father Jack McEvilly officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, Illinois.
