Edward T. Bridges
Edward T. Bridges, 87, of Swansea, IL, born Thursday, January 3, 1924, in East St. Louis, IL, died Monday, January 31, 2011 at Caseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Caseyville, IL.
Mr. Bridges was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and served on the aircraft carrier UUS Gambier Bay which was sunk in the battle of Leyte Gulf by the Japanese. Mr. Bridges survived after spending 40 hours in the water. He worked as a carpenter for 30 years for Piquard Construction Company and in retirement he enjoyed woodworking in his work shop. He was a member of the carpenter Union for 50 year and was a member of Westview Baptist Church in Swansea, IL,.
He was preceded in death by his:
- Wife: Rosalie Bridges of 64 years
- Parents: Charles F. and Estelle nee Custard Bridges Sr.
- Sister and 2 Brothers
Surviving are his:
- Daughter: Linda Simmonds of Swansea, IL
- Grandchildren
- Thomas E Simmonds
- Ginette R. (Tom) Kern
- 7 Great Grandchildren
- Brother-in-law: Jack Piquard of Belleville, IL
- Nieces: Angela and Shelley Piquard
Funeral: There will be a private family funeral services on Friday, February 4, 2011 at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, IL. Interment will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens.
