Wesley J. "Wes" Jewsbury

Wesley J. "Wes" Jewsbury, 80, of Millstadt, IL, born Saturday, January 3, 1931, in Jerseyville, IL, died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at his residence.

Wes was dedicated Christian in the conservative fashion of the Wesleyan tradition, serving since 1970 in the St. Matthew United Methodist Church.

He was a Sabre Jet aircraft crew chief during the Korean War. Upon discharge he was employed by McDonnell Aircraft Company in St. Louis and at Scott Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic.

In 1957 he transferred to the Army Aviation Systems Command (AVSCOM) in St. Louis. Wes was assigned the task of preparing the Army's very first configuration management plan. Under the direction of Colonel Edward Browne he developed and implemented the plan for the Army's new light observation helicopter just entering production. When production ended, Wes was commended for a very successful program. Working for the Light Observation Helicopter (LOH) Project Manager, he accepted the challenge of initiating and developing the Army's Pilot Project in Configuration Management. A Program to insure design control and cost containment. He successfully implemented his program on the Army's new LOH for service in Vietnam.

In 1991 he established "The Perfect Moment" bridal boutique in downtown Belleville managed by his daughters.

He was a lifetime Farm Bureau member and owned and operated farms in Jersey, Calhoun and Marion Counties. He personally built three of the five new homes with the help on one of the homes with Lawrence Meyer, which he occupied with his wife Phyllis. He traveled extensively, visiting twenty two countries and twenty three world cities.

He was preceded in death by:

  • Parents: Clifford and Charlotte "Lottie" nee Brangenberg Jewsbury
  • 1st Wife: Phyllis M. nee Barthen Jewsbury.

  • Niece: Julie Jewsbury of Sacremento, CA
  • Brother-in-law: Joseph (Angie) Barthen of Carnegie, PA

Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois. 

Visitation: Friends may call from 3-8 P.M., Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, April 11, 2011 at Kurrus Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Patton officiating. Interment will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
