Condolences left for Ellen Alice Mizell:

Ellen was a bon vivant, a quick wit, a talented writer, and an all around great person. She didn't live a long life, but she lived a very good one. I'm proud to have known her, and I offer you both my condolences for her loss and my congratulations for having known such a wonderful person in the first place!

My condolences to the family and friends of Ellen, (Miz Ellen). Ellen was a wonderful, bright, and talented woman. I miss her quick wit, and her thoughtful conversation. She was a woman of principle and passion in defense of animals and those who could not stand for themselves. Though the world has lost a shining example of manifest compassion, Ellen left the world a better place, and that, I believe, is what we should all stive for. Thank you Ellen.

I spent so many recesses stuck inside because I got in trouble for talking and yet here I am without words. My deepest condolences to the two- and four-footed family of Ellen Mizell. She always had a ready riposte for everything from a boo-boo to fine art. She made me laugh, cry, and delve deep into my own gut for my writing and spirituality. She will be sorely missed.

My deepest condolences to Ellen's family and other close friends. I met Ellen about 37 years ago when we both had work-study jobs at the Lilly rare books Library at Indiana University. She quickly became among my small close circle of college friends. She even took me home one weekend to Lexington to meet her family. Ellen's skills at Lilly were so valued that she was kept on for a summer job the year I graduated. I also stayed in Bloomington for a while that summer and Ellen and another friend and I were neighbors in an apartment house sharing a fire escape. Ellen and her roommate would bake fresh bread and the three of us would spend hours on that fire escape, reading and talking and Ellen would be writing.
I then moved to San Francisco and to my delight Ellen followed a few months later. We made more memories there. Unfortunately Ellen didn't stay long in San Francisco but we stayed in touch through a visit and phone calls but mainly letters. Ellen has always been such a wise and witty writer. I have a shoe box in my closet crammed with her letters. The letters and phone calls petered out a bit over time, but then Facebook came along and we picked up right where we left off. I'm also lucky to have recordings of stories and lyrics Ellen wrote with another of our college friends who's a musician. But I know I'm going to miss Ellen terribly. She was such a vibrant, compassionate, warm and witty person and a great friend.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Ellen's family. She was a very special person who left her mark on those around her. I only knew her through the virtual world of computers, something we had a lot of fun with.I would have cherished knowing her in person. The world is less for her passing, but rich in what she left behind.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Ellen's family. For a time, Ellen boarded her horse, Rudy, at our stable. She had such a passion for horses and animals. We will miss seeing her in Lexington, KY as a longtime jump judge on cross country at the Rolex 3 Day Eventing competition. Years ago, she introduced me to the proper way of making mint juleps when she hosted a Kentucky Derby party at her Belleville home for fellow stable friends. She was a dedicated volunteer to the equestrian community and will be missed. I am so sorry to hear of her sudden passing.

    To Ellen's Family,

I am so sorry for you loss. I worked with Ellen when our office was in Fairview Heights IL. I can remember talking with her about her nieces and newphews. She would show us pictures and was so proud of them. And the love of Rudy and her Sammy. I have 2 shih tzu and we use to talk about them. I was actually asking Ellen's manager on how to get in touch with the family because I would have loved to take care of Sammy. But I saw on Face Book someone from Lexington was coming for him. I was so glad he had a good home to go to.
You have to remember Ellen is now in a better and wonderful place up above and she is now your Angel looking over you.
May you rest in peace Ellen!
