Monroe C. Burris Jr

Monroe C. Burris Jr., 89, of Belleville, IL, born Thursday, August 11, 1921, in East St. Louis, IL, died Monday, December 20, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.

Mr. Burris Jr. was a retired machinist for Granite City Steel for 35 years. He was a member of Westview Baptist Church in Swansea where he was very active. He was an avid golfer and a US WWII Marine veteran.

 

He was preceded in death by:

  • Son, Dean Burris
  • Parents: Monroe C. and Ruth C. Goss Burris Sr.

Surviving are his:

  • Wife: Lillian B. neeTiefenauer Monroe
  • Son: Don (Victoria) Burris of Swansea, IL
  • Daughter: Karen (Leon) Stamm of Ramstein Airbase, Germany
  • Brother: Edward W. (Betty) Burris of Belleville, IL
  • 6 Grandchildren
  • 3 Great Grandchildren

Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois or Westview Baptist Church.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9-10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Kurrus Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Kurrus Funeral Home, with Rev. Vance Vyers officiating. Interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
