Herbert E. Littlefield, Sr.

Herbert E. Littlefield, Sr., 87, of Belleville, Illinois, born Monday, November 3, 1924, in Clifford, IL, died Friday, May 18, 2012 at his home in Belleville, Illinois.

Mr. Littlefield was a member of Winstanley Baptist Church Fairview Heights Illinois, and was active in many community organizations including, President of E. St. Louis Exchange Club, Chairman Bi-State American Red Cross, President Bi-County Urban League, E. St. Louis Rotary Club, YMCA Board of Directors, Chamber of Commerce and active in the United Way.  Herb made the varsity wrestling team at 'East Side High School', won the State of Illinois Championship in 1941, (the first in school history) and the Ozark AAU Championship 1942.  After entering the U.S. Navy he won the Fourteenth Naval District Championship while in "Boot Training" at Great Lakes.  After transferring to the South West Pacific he won the All-Navy Championship and then the All Service title. Mr. Littlefield began his career after serving in the U.S. Navy 1943-1946, as Branch Manager of Household Finance Corp.  His banking career began at Union National Bank from 1962-1966.  In 1966 Herb formed Southern Illinois National Bank and later became President, CEO and Chairman of the Board until his retirement.  He was a member of St. Clair Country Club.

Although Herb was a successful businessman his true joy came from his family.

He was preceded in death by his:

  • Son: Herbert E. Littlefield Jr.
  • Brothers: Carlton, Melvin and Doyle Littlefield
  • Sister: Betty Denbow

Visitation:  Friends may call from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am , Monday May 21, 2012 at Kurrus Funeral Home, with Rev. Wendell Garrison officiating.  Interment will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Illinois.
