Edna Mae Hurlburt



Edna Mae Hurlburt,
nee Nauyok, 76, of O Fallon, Illinois, born Sunday, September 9, 1934, in East St. Louis, IL, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at her residence.


Mrs. Hurlburt was the owner of Your Friendly Painter for 25 years and was the first woman to sit on the Painters District Council 58 joint board.

She was preceded in death by her:

  • Husband of 53 years and her best friend: Thomas Hurlburt
  • Children

    • John Hurlburt of St. Jacob, IL
  • Grandchildren
    • Tony (Hye) Keeley
    • Renee (Travis) Cummins
    • Dave Keeley
  • Many great nieces, nephews, and very close friends


Edna was of the Lutheran faith and was a woman with a big heart.  She was a great wife, mother, cook,  and Cadet Girl Scout Leader.  She was also a softball coach and head room mother at St. Phillips Church in East St. Louis.  She fought a great battle for 4 years.  My wife, lover, and best friend will get a place for me at her side; this will be the day the Lord will make. 

Memorials: Memorials may be made to the O'Fallon Animal Rescue or St. Clair County Animal Shelter.

Visitation:  Friends may call from 4-8 pm Friday, September 9, 2011 at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, Illinois and from 9-10 am Saturday, September 10, 2011 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in O'Fallon, Illinois.  A prayer service will be held at 4 pm Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Doug Nicely officiating.

Funeral:  A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Saturday, September 10, 2011 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, with Msgr. William Hitpas officiating.  Interment will follow at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery, Collinsville, Illinois.

    I am so very sorry to hear the news of Edna's passing. Please accept my sincerest condolences.

    I have so many incredible memories from my time with the entire Hurlburt family. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to know Edna and the entire family.

    She was such a wonderful person, and so many people will miss her.

    I sure that Mom and Edna are now chatting and smiling down on all of us.
