Dr. Dennis J. Stanczyk, MD, 77, born Friday, October 10, 1941, in Chicago, IL, died Monday, May 13, 2019 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri.
He grew up on the south side of Chicago, played college football and ran track. After college he graduated from St. Louis University School of Medicine and interned at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA. He served in the US Navy with Mobile River Forces in Vietnam where he received a Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V” and was exposed to Agent Orange which caused his cancer. He completed his urological surgery residency at SLU. In January 1976, he began private practice at Urological Associates of Belleville where he introduced new and aggressive urological procedures. He held numerous staff and elected positions on the state and county medical societies as well as on the staff of St. Elizabeth’s and Belleville Memorial Hospitals. He was elected to the Signal Hill School Board and served for 12 years. He served on the Belle Claire Soccer board for 20 years and enjoyed coaching youth soccer with this organization. He helped initiate the Belleville West After Prom parties and funding committees. He was most proud of being “Daddy” and “Papa Dennis” and will miss the kids, tending the garden, riding his “hog”, playing his guitar and Mexico trips.
He was preceded in death by his:

- First wife: Judy Ann, nee Stoll, Stanczyk
- whom he married in 1969 and enjoyed life together with their children until her death in 1994.

Visitation: Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 4 pm to 8 pm at Kurrus Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois.
Funeral: A funeral procession will leave from Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL at 9:45am, Friday, May 17, 2019 for a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Henry Catholic Church in Belleville, IL, with Rev. Kenneth York officiating. Interment will follow at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, Illinois.

Dr. Stanczyk was one of the first physicians I worked with at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital when I started my nursing career. I always appreciated his concern for patients, his sense of humor, his no nonsense way, and his confidence in the 6th floor nurses. Condolences to his family. May you all be blessed by your many wonderful memories of him.

Many prayers for the family – in my short time of knowing him (after his retirement) he was always so kind and gracious to me. I worked with his former staff and they thought of him as family and I truly understand why – he was a joy to be around. My heart goes out to all of you in your times of sorrow. The world will miss his spirit and kindness.

I was a patient of Doc S and also worked with him as a nurse for many years. He was an amazingly skilled and very compassionate physician who selflessly served the Belleville community not only as a doctor, but in so many other capacities as noted in his obituary. My thoughts and prayers are with you Dana, and all of your beautiful family. He leaves an amazing legacy. RIP Doc, and thank you for your service to all of us. You will be missed by all who knew you.

We are saddened to hear of Dennis’ passing and extend our condolences to all. Our families shared many of life’s experiences together, surrounding our kids school activities and Ozark weekends. We will forever remember driving by the Stanczyks to see “life” in full bloom in the yard and Ben seated in the middle taking it all in.
Dennis’ commitment to country, family and community has left a legacy that you all share. Please know that he will be forever remembered as a loyal friend and good neighbor.

My prayers are with the entire Stancyk family. He was one of my favorite physicians and I admired him greatly. After I retired from nursing I would run into him at restaurants, grocery stores, and sporting events. I cherished his friendship. He spoke with great pride about all of his children and I know he will be sadly missed by you as well. He will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

He was. a great friend , I was having problems with my daughter and he told me stand your ground and don’t give in. . Well I listen to his advice didn’t give in and now my daughter is a nurse and she overlooks a clinic at a Barnes Hospital. Sorry to the family, he will be missed.

I worked many years in the OR with Dr Stanczyk. He was a great surgeon and I always enjoyed his sense of humor. So sorry to hear of his illness and passing. My sympathy to Dana and his children and grandchildren.
