Rita M. Thompson, nee South, 91, of Belleville, Illinois, born Saturday, October 14, 1922, in Palmyra, MO, died Friday, April 18, 2014 at her daughter’s home in Pacific, Missouri.
Rita was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Belleville, Illinois and the social justice and fish fry committees at the church. She volunteered at St. Elizabeth Hospital and read for the blind. Rita enjoyed playing the piano, painting, knitting, reading her mysteries and doing crossword puzzles. She also was an excellent cook and her frosted salad has become an internationally acclaimed recipe.

Rita was very musically inclined and loved listening to the Allegro Chorale which includes three of her children Richard, Connie and Maureen.
Visitation: Friends may call from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Friday, April 25, 2014 at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, Illinois.
Funeral: A funeral procession will leave from Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL at 12:45 pm, Saturday, April 26, 2014 for a 1:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Belleville, Illinois with Father Stan Konieczny officiating. Interment will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory Mausoleum, Belleville, Illinois.
