Lana J. Pollock

February 6, 1944 - August 4, 2018

Service Date: August 9, 2018

Lana J. Pollock, nee Gilliam, 74, of Belleville, IL, born February 6, 1944, died Saturday, August 4, 2018, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL with her children at her side.

Lana was a hypnotherapist and opened the Hypnotherapy Center on the West end of Belleville in 1983 serving clients until this spring. Lana was known for taking time with each client to make a connection. She greatly enjoyed her work as a way of helping people achieve success through their personal goals. Prior to that career, Lana worked as a professional model for Ford Modeling Agency. She was named Miss East St. Louis and runner-up to Miss Missouri in 1966.

From the time she first met her husband Shelby, she became an avid golfer, sharing his love of the outdoors on the greens as a member of St. Clair Country Club. Along with her husband, Lana was a member of the Shiloh Valley Muzzleloader Club where she honed her skills with shooting her black power rifle, even taking part in local competitions. The two of them found many ways to share their life together, especially as parents of their three children. Lana served as a den mother for years while her sons were in scouts, then as a sideline supporter of sports and academic teams always ready to rally for them.

Lana’s other life-long love was for Native American history. She started volunteering at Cahokia Mounds on a weekly basis in 1994 and joined the Board of Directors in 1996. Most recently, she served as the President of the Museum Society working to preserve the important history of the mound builders.

Lana remained devoted to her friends, family, children, and grandchildren up to her last days. She found a lot of joy most recently in her youngest grandchild, eight-month-old baby girl Emerson. Her focus remained optimistic, thinking of others while she brought with fortitude and grace to live each day to its fullest. Her legacy will be carried forward with love and light.
