Thomas H. Cahoon, 81, of O’Fallon, Illinois, born Sunday, October 11, 1936, in St. Louis, MO, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Memorial Hospital East in Shiloh, Illinois.

Tom graduated with a BA in Architecture from the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign (1960). During college, Tom participated in ROTC and was a member of the United States Army and Army Reserve as a First Lieutenant in the Civil Engineering Corps from 1961 to 1967.

During his career, he worked as an architect designing institutional, commercial and specialty projects while working at firms including PGAV, Sverdrup, SIU-E, and private practice. His notable projects include design work on the Loch Ness Monster roller coaster and various attractions at Busch Gardens Amusement Park in Williamsburg, VA as well as Tampa, FL, and campus buildings at Webster University in Webster Groves, MO. His career culminated as campus architect for SIU-Edwardsville.

Retiring in 2001 allowed him more time for reading, traveling with his wife Nancy on tours and visiting his grandchildren, playing bridge in multiple couples’ groups, playing golf, enjoying Cardinals baseball games, and attending many shows and musical performances.

He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, Belleville, IL for over 55 years where he served many roles including Deacon, Elder, Trustee, longtime member of the building commission, Sunday school teacher and active participant in the weekly Men’s bible study group. Tom was also active in the Paseo Con Cristo gateway Christian community for many years.

He was preceded in death by his:

Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Presbyterian Church, Belleville, IL or Donor’s Choice.

Visitation: Visitation from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, at First United Presbyterian Church in Belleville, Illinois on July 14th preceding the Memorial Service.

Funeral: Memorial Service will be held at 11 am, July 14th, First United Presbyterian Church in Belleville, IL., with Pastor Rob Dyer officiating.
