Dr. Lucille Mae Pressnell, 92, born December 16, 1925, passed away January 12, 2018, at the Colonnade in O’Fallon, Illinois.
She was born and raised in Centralia, IL, graduating from Centralia Township High School. While residing in Centralia, she was a member of First Christian Church.
Dr. Pressnell received her BS from Washington University and a dual MS from Washington University and Central Institute for the Deaf, St. Louis, MO. Her doctoral degree was earned from Northwestern University.
After graduating, Lucille taught at Washington University, Central Institute for the Deaf, Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, and Emery University in Atlanta, GA. She was the director of the Davidson School, Inc., a private residential school for deaf children located in Atlanta, GA, from 1972 until her retirement in 1992.
Upon her retirement, she and her husband relocated to Ballwin, MO. She was a member of Community Christian Church, Manchester, MO, serving as the church treasurer for 20 years. She was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Phi Beta Kappa, and Speech & Language Society.
During her tenure at the Davidson School, she received many honors and tributes. Two special events in her career were meeting President Jimmy Carter, lunching with Rosalynn Carter in the White House Rose Garden, and dining with Astronaut John Glenn. She also had a dorm building named after her at the Davidson School in Atlanta.

Funeral: Graveside Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018, at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Centralia, IL, with Rev. Rob Dyer of Belleville officiating.
