Albert D. (Dave) Downs Jr., 88, of Millstadt, Illinois, died Saturday, August 12, 2017, surrounded by his family.
Born January 10, 1929, in East Saint Louis, IL, he was the son of the late Albert D. and Mathilda M., nee Wuller, Downs.
Dave was a heavy equipment operator and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 520 for more than 60 years. He enjoyed spending time with family. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved to host barbeques for his family and friends. Dave loved to fish. In fact, when he retired, he bought a second home at Kentucky Lake so he could be closer to the water. He spent every spring and summer at the lake in his quest for those trophy bass or slab crappies. He loved having his grandkids spend parts of their summer with him at the lake. In his later years, he enjoyed wintering in Florida. Dave was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus for 50 years and a member of St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, IL. He was a U.S. Navy and Marines veteran.
Dave was preceded in death by his:
- Loving wife of 42 years: Adelee J., nee Huck, Downs
- whom he married on February 23, 1952
- Brother: Frank Downs
Surviving are his:
- Wife: Mary M. “Margie” Downs
- whom he married on December 26, 1998
- Three children

- Diane M. (Frank) Antoine of Conway, AR

Visitation: Friends may call from 4:30 pm – 7:30 pm Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL, and from 9:00 am – 10:00 am Thursday, August 17, 2017, at St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, Illinois.
Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am , August 17, 2017, at St. James Catholic Church, with Rev. Kenneth York and Rev. Marvin Volk officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Illinois.
