Alice Marie Lienesch

Alice Marie Lienesch, nee Muelchi, 86, of Belleville, Illinois, born Sunday, July 4, 1926, in Shiloh Valley, IL, passed from this world on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Illinois.

At age 16 after the passing of her mother Alice left high school to take care of her father and siblings. In 1945 as the new bride of Donald R. Lienesch, Alice returned to school and graduated from Belleville Township High School in 1947. She then became the wonderful mother of three children and full time homemaker.  After her children were older she pursued her education at Belleville Area College. Alice was extremely well read and a self educated published poet, writer and public speaker.

Her dedication to her family, church, friends and community were beyond measure and life long. She was an active member of Union United Methodist Church in Belleville Illinois and the United Methodist Women. Her special interest as a church leader was in support of its children programs.

On May 13, 2013-remove Alice would have celebrated her 50th year in Chapter K.C. PEO International. A philanthropic and educational organization dedictated to the advancement of women. She was past president and an active member until her death. She was an active member of the St. Clair County Historical Society and its mission to preserve the history of this area. She also served on the landmark committees for many years. Alice was a member of the Engelmann Cemetery Association of Shiloh, Illinois located across the road from her birthplace and childhood home and final resting place.  

She was preceded in death by her:

  • Parents: William and Clara nee Brown Muelchi
  • Brothers: Curtis, Charles and Albert Muelchi
  • Sister: Cornelia Reaka


Surviving are her:

  • Husband of 67 years Donald R. Lienesch
  • 3 children
    • Michael F. (Ann Baker) Lienesch of Chapel Hill, NC
    • Twins: Clara C. (James) Noe of Saint Charles, MO and Donald E. (Susie) Lienesch of Waterloo, IL
  • Grandchildren
    • Jon D. Warren
    • Nicholas (Kathryn) Lienesch
    • Donielle (Patrick) Grimsley
    • Elizabeth Lienesch


Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Union United Methodist Building Fund, PEO or donors choice.

Visitation:  Friends may call from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, Illinois and from 10:00 am - 11:00 am Friday, October 12, 2012 at Union United Methodist Church in Belleville, Illinois. There will be a PEO service at 4:00pm on Thursday at the Funeral Home.

Funeral:  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 12, 2012 at Union United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ed Weston officiating  Interment will follow at Engelmann Cemetery, Shiloh, Illinois.
