Laberta L. Mayo

Laberta L. Mayo, nee Hardwig, 93, of Belleville, IL, born Friday, January 26, 1917, in East St. Louis, IL, died Thursday, December 16, 2010, at St.Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, IL.

Mrs. Mayo worked as a office clerk for Edison Brothers Shoe Company for 15 years. She was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Belleville, IL, Christian Heirs of the church, New Life Club, past president of PTA Slade School in East St. Louis, IL and enjoyed her trip to Israel.

Laberta was very creative and loved to sew and knit beautiful creations. She received an award for her penmanship. She loved flowers and roses were her favorite. She was a beloved mother and friend to her daughter. They enjoyed each other, visited often, and traveled together. Her spirituality was at the essence of her being.

She was preceded in death by her:

  • Brother: Ernest B. Hardwig
  • Great Great Niece: Danielle Elizabeth Thompson

Visitation: Friends may call from 4-8 P.M., Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at the Kurrus Funeral Home, Belleville, IL and from 10-10:30 A.M., Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Belleville, IL.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at Saint Matthew United Methodist Church, with Rev. Larry Patton officiating and Rev. Bob Souders with the eulogy. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
