Claire Dean Kiggins Stone

Claire Dean Kiggins Stone, 83, died peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2012, as a result of injuries suffered in a fall at her home.

Born March 31, 1928, in East St. Louis, IL

She was preceded in death by her:

  • Parents:  Leslie V. and Bessie I. nee Thompson Kiggins
  • Sister: Elaine Kiggins Fischer, Belleville, IL
  • Special Friend August C. Neff, O'Fallon, IL


She is survived by her:

  • Brother: Dwight L. Kiggins of Belleville, IL
  • Son: Michael R. Stone and his spouse Kristine Lynn Moss Stone of Frankfort, KY
  • Grand Daughters:
    • Leslie Michele Stone of Nashville TN
    • Stephanie Marie Stone, Louisville, KY
  • Niece: Anne Claire Fischer (Dave) Weygandt of Columbia, IL

                      
Claire was a graduate of Belleville Township High School and St. Johns School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse. She later studied for one year at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, in advanced operating room management. She was a 35 year employee of Memorial Hospital, beginning her service in 1958 prior to its opening. During her career at Memorial, she was a recovery room supervisor, operating room supervisor and director of central service.  For several years, she taught classes on hospital central service techniques and procedures at Belleville Area College (now Southwestern Illinois College). She was a member and Board member of the National Association of Hospital Central Service and co-authored a textbook on central service techniques and procedures. She was an active member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses. She was engaged civicly for many years with the OFallon Junior Women's Club, OFallon, Parent Teachers' Association, and the Mental Health Association of St. Clair County, for which she served one term as Board President.

In her leisure, Claire enjoyed traveling, good restaurants and sharing time with friends and family. She was particularly proud of the accomplishments of her granddaughters.

Memorials:  Flowers are welcome and memorials may be made to Hope Church or Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Visitation:  Friends may call from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm Monday, February 13, 2012 at Kurrus Funeral Home, 1773 Frank Scott Parkway West, Belleville, Illinois.

Funeral:  Rev Jay Krumeich, Hope Church, Belleville, IL will officiate services at Kurrus Funeral Home at 10:00 am Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Interment will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory Mausoleum, Belleville, Illinois.
