Donald Lee Porter

Donald Lee Porter, 89, of Shiloh, IL, born Sunday, April 24, 1921, on a small farm near Syracuse, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 in Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, IL.

Donald was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Presidential Citation, Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and the Good Conduct Medal. He flew 156 missions over enemy territory.

Mr. Porter was a cookware salesman for over 50 years and received many awards for his salesmanship. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Fairview Heights, IL and a member of Cincinnati, Ohio Lodge A.F.& A.M. and Scottish Rite Bodies.

He was preceded in death by:

  • Parents: Thomas C. and Laura V. nee Johansen Porter
  • Brother: Thomas C. Porter
  • Sister-in-law: Bonnie Porter

Surviving are his:

  • Wife of 64 years: Ruth V. Porter nee Miller of Shiloh, IL
  • Brother-in-law: Ted R. (Rebecca) Miller
  • Sister-in-law: Shirley A. (Harry) Tourville
  • Many nieces, nephews and friends

Memorials: Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

 

 

Visitation: Friends may call from 3-7 P.M., Sunday, August 15 at the Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, August 16, 2010 at Kurrus Funeral Home, with Rev. Shane Bishop officiating. Entombment will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Fairview Heights, IL.
